Kia Ora Hello!
I’m a Kiwi artist living in the small alpine town of Wanaka, New Zealand. I create contemporary landscape mountain art inspired by the places I've lived in or visited in New Zealand, USA and Europe. It has been a convoluted journey with many tangents before I found my way back to art, but I wouldn't have had it any other way! The varied experiences of life, the people, places, natural environment, history, identity, and intuition all influence and inform my art.
Much of my work is dedicated to modern mountain art. I'm drawn to the mountains from growing up in Wanaka surrounded by the stunning Southern Alps and also my time as a World Cup skier exploring the mountains of North America and Europe.
After my skiing career I worked as a graphic designer and art director with New Zealand Snowboarder, New Zealand Skier and New Zealand Skateboarder magazines for 10 years. I also completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Anthropology at Massey University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Teaching at Victoria University.
In 2013, while on maternity leave with my son Billy, I started Bridget Hall Design - creating art prints and greeting cards to sell online through my Etsy Store, in design stores and art markets in Wanaka and Queenstown. Since then I've been busy keeping up with orders and adding new artworks to my collection. Although I'm based in New Zealand this has grown to become an international business and I have partnered with reliable, high quality printers in different locations around the world so that my art prints can be produced close to their destination and shipped quickly to my customers.
The places depicted in my art are chosen because they have somehow moved me and as I reflect on memories and photos I'll hand draw my ideas. After that I begin the process of drawing on the computer. I sometimes paint with acrylics but the computer is my main medium. Often a single artwork will go through many iterations over a period of weeks as my ideas develop. I hope you can sense that there is a sincerity and authenticity conveyed in my work. I am constantly striving to evolve and challenge myself in my art. I want to provoke a sense of connection between person and place. That emotional tie we have with a place that has inspired us or holds treasured memories. The places we go and experiences we have enhance, uplift and alter our lives immeasurably. The intention is that when you look at this art on your wall you are reminded of that feeling.
Since I started Bridget Hall Design I have been so fortunate to have had a fantastic response to my designs. I enjoy hearing from my customers and finding out why my art resonates with them. It has been amazing to create a business that I love and to send my art all over the world.
Thank you so much for your support!
